Foxy Vol. 108 - Modern Defence Part 1 [↓]
The Modern Defense is a tough system based on counterattack. In this new three-volume Foxy Openings series IM Andrew Martin maps out a repertoire for Black for use by players of any level. Black will fianchetto his King's Bishop (...g6 & ...Bg7) and probably castle, while allowing White to establish a broad pawn center. Then comes the counter stroke ...e5 or ...c5, and sometimes even ...c6 with ...d5 following. In any case, the Modern creates difficult positions which are ideal if you want to play to win with Black.
